Evolution of engineering education is closely related to industrial revolutions. Now a dominant idea is that education should serve the purposes of a sustainable and agile society, training engineers, teaching staff and managers that are ready to address challenges and digitally transform the economy. It is impossible to achieve this goal without exchanging best practices and ideas among researchers and teachers from different countries and the representatives of leading corporations. A successful private-public partnership creates various forms of interaction to the benefit of engineering education as a system across boundaries.
Governments, research, education, and business communities are tending to unite their efforts to identify development trends in engineering education. These issues are discussed at some global forums, including ICL/IGIP conferences. Since 2016, the nationwide discussion site in Russia has become Synergy, the international network conference. One of its visionaries and organizers is IGIP supported by the leading engineering universities and by PJSC Gazprom. Employers finally get better trained personnel and an annual discussion site for collaboratively solving the issues related to the activities of engineering universities, the quality of graduates, and the measures to be taken to support engineering education. This hypothesis is proven both by our experience in holding the conference in 2016-2019 and by actively borrowing the best practices of different universities, and by translating successful methods to all levels of engineer training, starting from secondary school.
At ICL/IGIP conferences, an important component is the “Russian” sessions. It should be emphasized how good international public-private partnership models are for developing the new forms of interaction between businesses and educational institutions in Russia.
Synergizing the efforts of all those involved in the innovative development of training engineers at universities in line with global trends allows creating an integrated space for higher engineering education.
