The tour will give the IGIP conference participants a general impression of the most important historical monuments of the city. Along the Ring Boulevard you will discover the State Opera, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Imperial Palace, the Parliament, the City Hall, the Votive Church and many other famous sights.
The coach ride to the Belvedere Palace, to the Hundertwasser House (an example of modern urban and artistic architecture) will also show you the characteristics of Vienna’s city planning which perfectly integrates the old architecture into the new one today (The monuments will just be seen from the outside, there are no indoor visits).
For more than 600 years, Vienna was the main residence of the Habsburg dynasty. The Habsburgs had titles such as emperor, king, archduke, princely count and many more. Their imperial presence has transformed Vienna into a city full of magnificent buildings and historical places. Everyday life in Vienna was always full of gossip about the history and the stories around the imperial Habsburg family, Vienna’s most famous inhabitants. The Imperial Palace, the former winter residence in the historical old city, boasts of exciting features and is the starting point of this tour. Walking over Vienna's most expansive shopping street, the Kohlmarkt, you will reach the Graben with its Holy Trinity Column. The Graben used to be part of the city wall that was surrounding the ancient Roman city "Vindobona". You will then reach Vienna's most famous sight: Saint Stephen’s Cathedral, in which Kings and queens were already enthroned even before the Habsburgs became emperors.
